About Cory
Cory is 13 years old and currently attends North Lake Middle School in Lake Stevens, WA.
When he isn't racing Cory likes to hang out with his friends, play X-box, Play and watch football and now and again likes the occasional air soft war.
~2004~
Cory first sat in a race car in September of 2004, he was just seven years old and some friends had borrowed a car for Cory to drive. We were planning to just run a few laps after the local Quarter Midget club ran their races. The guys in the club somehow talked us into letting Cory race with the Novice kids. "We'll start him in the back of everything", they said. "Put on a throttle stop and he'll be fine". He was fine! The first time in a car and he went out and finished second.
Two weeks later we were back at the track to watch, one of the dad's wanted to know if we were racing. We didn't have anything, no car, no helmet, no safety gear. Told us you can borrow all that and you can use our car, his son was in a different class so we just needed to put a restrictor on the motor for Cory. So, second race, in borrowed equipment and he went out and won the race. Now it's time to go out and buy our own equipment.
~2005~
We started 2005 with a five year old car. The first race of the season we put Cory in both Novice and Juniors just to get him some extra laps. He won the novice race and took second in the Juniors. After getting some looks from the other Novice parents, that was the last time we ran that class. Cory spent the rest of 2005 racing with the juniors, he won the next race and was in a tough three way points battle for the rest of the year where he finished third in points.
~2006~
In 2006, we moved cory up to the Senior Honda class and aslo joined the QMA club in Elma, another dirt track to get more track time and more competition. Cory didn't win any races but had four podium finishes. The highlight of the year was being able to race in the QMA Dirt Grand Nationals, Cory had 34 cars in his class and kids from all over the country. It was also his first time qualifying, he qualified 21st out of 34 cars and started 5th in the E-Main. This was one of Cory's best races of the year, after starting 5th in the E, he was making a pass for 4th and got together with another car spinning and stopping on the track. Cory had to restart in 10th but worked his way back and won the E-Main.
Cory ran the alphabet that day and transferred through the D-Main and the C-Main getting the last transfer spot to the B-Main. We started 10th in the B-Main and Cory worked his way up to 7th, they took the top five to the A-main. He did a fabulous job at his first National Event. Cory also captured 3rd Place in the Skagit Quarter Midget Club Season points Championship.
~2007~
In 2007 we bought two new NC Kong Chassis and raced both Senior Honda and Light 160/200. It was an aggressive schedule, we raced 28 times from California to Washington. Cory won 9 races, had 17 podium finishes and won two championships.
~2008~
In 2008 we took a big step, at eleven years old, Cory began driving a restricted 600 Micro Sprint at Deming Speedway. It was a bit of a learning curve for both driver and Crew Chief (DAD) but the program started to come together by the end of the season.
~2009~
In 2009 Cory was focused on getting more consistent, the year started out with great qualifying efforts but we were unable to put together the finishes we wanted. Cory's best finish at Deming in 2009 was 3rd, later in the season he got his first WIN in a 600 at Salem, OR. in a non-wing show. It was a big confidence boost and he can't wait for the 2010 Racing season to get here..
